What is the real cause of all of this?
Watch this documentary series. I cant believe that I missed this when it was released (over 2 years ago).

It's a real eye opener and I would be very interested in your thoughts on it (and your travel experiences Wednesday/Thursday/Friday if you travelled).
I managed to fly from New York to Europe a few days ago without a hitch.
Having travelled to the UK and having savoured the "Heaf-Row" experience (what a smelly hole that place is - and no surprise that one of the terror suspects was an all areas access employee there), I vowed never to fly through the UK again and fly to Copenhagen or other destinations.
However while I didnt suspect it at the time, something was up when at Copenhagen on Thursday morning I transited to another flight (to another European capital) having done this at this very airport with the same flight sequence on previous occasions.
I disembarked from the jet I took from NY (where at Newark there was the usual security checks on Wednesday afternoon, although I did notice several M4 armed military types I dont usually see) and then walked with other transiting passengers toward the internal boarding gate at Copenhagen in the same terminal to board my other flight.
Unlike the other times, this time there was another full body x ray etc security check here. Just for an internal terminal transfer from one flight to another.
People were complaining, usually you just board your new flight. My flight was leaving in 30 minutes. The boarding time had expired. The line was long, only 2 or 3 lines for hundreds of people.
Many people in the line were complaining, and saying "this is ridiculous, Ive never seen this before." My comment to them was something like - "listen dont worry you'll get your flight - its better than being blown up." My comment got some laughs and people relaxed a little. We all got our flights on time. Then, early Friday morning, as I read the news that had emerged on Thursday afternoon, I realised that my off the cuff comment was right.
This air travel stuff is getting rather scary. I for one shall make it a point never to fly through the UK again. If I need to get to the UK, I will probably fly to Amsterdam and bus it to London.
I myself think that the authorities should be given greater powers to ensure that we have safe travel. While I didnt know what was happening at the time, my point to the complaining passengers at Copenhagen was right, its better to be a little delayed and safe than not.
This should concern us all, whether we travel by plane, train, or bus, or use the sidewalk. Its serious business.

Fantastically interesting and absorbing! Thank you for the links.
I agree: this is compulsory viewing.
For the realists, this is history as it really is; for the conspiracy theorists, it's vindication that the truth of all events is behind the scenes.
Something for everyone. Documentaries like this you'll never see on American television. Makes me realize how little of our vaunted "freedom" really exists (or maybe is even worth having).
Thank you again, Gregory, and thank you, BBC!

You're right. But this 1987 PBS Documentary is a worthy rival. The Secret Government when it aired was 90 minutes. I found a 20 minute cut down version well worth viewing.

Anyone travel late last week? I was in the air myself when the plot was foiled.

You need the British to tell us what's going on in America.

Truth is, most folks can't be truthful and objective about the group they belong to. We Americans mythologize ourselves; we're best not believed when we talk about ourselves --just like folks anywhere.
The British don't suffer from a language barrier when looking at us, and they don't feel any need to maintain our myths. So they're a great source of objective information about us (except maybe for you, nick! ;)).
Check out Luca's posts for confirmation.

..…speaking as an (UK) airline executive whose living depends upon people continuing to fly I hope that over time you gain some perspective on last weeks events.
Some facts may be enlightening here; there has been NO attack on transatlantic aircraft or ANY other aircraft. People have been arrested and are SUSPECTED of a conspiracy but ten days after the fact, still not charged. In the US they would have been released by law already.
Tony Blair is on hols on a billionaires yacht in the Caribbean (as a good socialist does) and there is a power struggle for his succession (he’s stepping down soon) with former communist John Reid, “in charge” of home security making his move whilst he’s absent. Reid gained blanket media coverage by hyping this “conspiracy” to the greatest possible extent and appearing on every media outlet every five minutes for days on end. Claiming the conspiracy was “bigger than 9/11” and that “stringent security checks” would be imposed on air travel from now on and generally airing his authoritarian policies (and therefore himself) as the solution to this “unprecedented” attack which would have been “the largest mass murder in history” (all direct quotes). You should also know that his office –the Home Office – has been exposed this year as totally and comprehensively inept to the point that his predecessor (another candidate for future PM) was forced to resign as a result of his department’s total incompetence. So they need to restore their credibility.
I remind you – no one has been charged with anything. The mass panic instilled in the travelling public by power hungry Labour politicians has achieved the militant Muslims objectives for them (this weekend passengers made a Spain/UK bound aircraft remove two Arabic speaking men before take off – of course they were held for questioning and found to be innocent travellers) by causing chaos in our industry with silly and entirely nonsensical “security checks” which do nothing, absolutely nothing to enhance security and making people such as yourself alter their travelling decisions.
There has been a series of these “conspiracies” here in the UK which were similarly hyped by the government and media gaining blanket coverage. None came to anything and were invariably found to be entirely innocent. It’s too early to say if this too is one of them but either way, the politicians and media have achieved the Muslim nutters objectives on their behalf.
My airline is one of several that will be looking at legal remedies from the government for what they did last week but that’s in the future. In the meantime – please don’t succumb to the politics of fear and re-look at the BBC series, “The Power of Nightmares” and take in its central thesis; “Those with the darkest fears became the most powerful”.
(btw – totally agree with you about LHR – it’s a toilet and a national embarrassment although it was bought by a Spanish company Ferovial this year. May I suggest AMS as an altogether superior airport/hub with better links to the UK than LHR)
KEEP FLYING – I NEED THE MONEY :)
PS continuing my education about ID cards look out for my next post when I will show you how your passport can be used selectively to trigger a bomb when and only when you are an American - brought to you by you own government of course!

I would to Heathrow, but there a few things preventing me at the moment:
1. Compared to Heathrow, any airport from Copenhagen in Denmark to Sheremetevo in Moscow looks and works better for me. If I want the Tardis I'll play a Dr Who DVD, not travel to Heathrow;
2. Heathrow is expensive airport taxes wise; and
3. The hostesses on UK airlines are nothing compared to Cathay Pacific's, Scandinavian's, Aeroflot's hostesses (need I go on?); and
4. I can't drink the coffee at Heathrow - I've tried - trust me.
5. I don't like getting blown up. One of the suspects is an all access security worker there. I think they need to change their employee screening.
6. And finally its all too late. Im hooked on Copenhagen.

I got your point, I just didnt respond to it. But that's ok, I'm glad you agree with me about HEAF-ROW.
Don't know about AMS though. Great airport but I don't go for the LAY-DEES of DA NITE myself. Maybe when I'm older or something.

LoL - not that kind of "other stuff". In Amsterdam Coffee houses are a euphemism for places that serve as many varieties a wacky backy as you can shake stick at. And in America you think Starbucks is radical - heh heh.
Actually - Starbucks cost more than a Amstradam coffee house!

Interesting article in the Guardian (great UK Newspaper) about how alienation in society from globalisation and disintegration is causing the terror:

Funny because on the front page today also in the Guardian is a story about banning fast food advertising.

Watch it.
No words can describe this lecture by the Canadian economist, Michel Chossudovsky.
But I would be interested in your comments after viewing the lecture, as would the rest of the forum.
