Hi,

I'm flying into JFK via an international flight, and then I will be transferring to a domestic flight.

My question is, how much time allowance should I give from the time my international flight arrives and my domestic flight depart JFK? I'll be arriving in December.

Would 2 hours be enough? Would I need to clear customs / immigration / collect baggage before I can check in for my domestic flight? How long will this take in December?

Thanks in advance for you help.

^ Two hours at least. These days, maybe more.

You'll definitely have to clear customs. I'd allow at least 2 hours, because JFK tends to have several international flights coming in at more or less the same time, and there could be quite a backup if you're unlucky enough to be delayed and run into just this kind of situation. Plus, if it's a different airline that you're transferring to, and it's domestic, I'd say the odds are pretty strong you'll have to change terminals, and that could take a while, too.

My sister just landed this week at JFK from overseas (Thailand) around noon, and to my astonishment she went through customs with two huge suitcases in under 15 minutes. I'd still give it all the time suggested above because there are too many variables, but you might find that two hours is plenty of time.
