Hello darkness, my old friend,
Ive come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
A neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.

Does anyone know why they chose not to have the Tribute in Light at the World Trade Center site. It was on top of a roof of a building on West St. a few blocks south of the site .

The display has never been staged at the WTC. It was originally located across West Street from the WTC, on the site where the Goldman Sachs headquarters is now being built and was moved to its present location because of that construction. When the display first appeared, in early 2002, wreckage clearance operations then underway at the WTC site would probably have precluded its use for that purpose.

Ideally the Towers of Light would be set up within the WTC site but, due to the size of the installation and the amount of time that is required to set it up, the T of L would be in the way of what is now a construction site (and what was previously a clean up site).

It seems that there is no long term plan for the Towers of Light to be a part of the new WTC ( see HERE (http://www.wirednewyork.com/forum/showpost.php?p=119495&postcount=47) ).

Thank Zippy 'bonjour tristesse en cet anniversaire'Merci.

But not mine this time. I spent the day with the FDNY, putting down pints of Guinness at the Reade Street Pub. The owner, Bruce, grills dogs and burgers out on the sidewalk - all free. Probably a code violation, but I think there were some Fire Marshalls handy. By sunset, I was in no condition to look through a camera lens.

My daughter's eye. I'll pass along the compliments.

I was wondering how high these beams go up beofre they disappear. I tried to calculate using relative buildings sizes and I came up with about a mile and a half. Any official measurements?

The one on the far right is one cool picture.

Last night was a great night to view them as the beams were hitting the clouds.
