"Within a matter of weeks the media has reported 31 murders of Somalis in Cape Town. These hate- crimes against immigrants and refugees merely trying to make a living are the ultimate expression of xenophobia against people who have learnt to transform their desperate situations into entrepreneurial activity...More astounding is the failure of the police to get to the bottom of who is perpetrating these murders, especially given the promises made by Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula and MEC Leonard Ramatlakane that the police would be proactive in fighting crime. If ever there seemed to be an easy case to handle it is this, yet the lack of political will speaks volumes of the polices own xenophobia and failure to treat these killings seriously. These murders follow a pattern and they seem to be happening in confined areas (Du Noon near Milnerton and Masiphumelele in Fish Hoek), yet police have failed to arrest anyone. "

"One would think that two murders within a week would propel the South African Police Service into action, but after 31 deaths, Nqakula and Ramatlakane are still clueless as to who the killers are, only acknowledging that it must be xenophobia. The official lethargy is astounding and just another demonstration of the states own prejudices...Can we imagine the outcry if 31 Germans or French were killed in such close proximity?" After a basic google of this, I see no direct links or sources for this information.

Yzer, although your information may be 100% factual, we have had bad experiences in the past with people posting exaggerated "news" stories of world events, most notable and recent being a poster named Juna posting from the Epoch Times about China.

Although we do sympathise about the plights that many inthis world are subjected through by the hand of despotic rulers or hatefull people, it helps us to get a better perspective on things if we are given more than an unreferenced hit and run post that is presented all in quotes with no real clue as to who the poster is, what they think and feel, or what may truly be happening in the area they are calling attension to.

If you could do us all a favor and provide us with the source of your information and TALK WITH US a bit, you might find you will have quite a bit more that would be interested in listening.

Monday - another Somali refugee was murdered in Cape Town (http://www.capetown.dj/people/Quotes/Somalis.htm)(bringing the total over the last few months to 12); but the police claim its not xenophobia.
