Any opinions on the building, residents, noise, rents, etc. would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

I can't speak to the building, but I have lived in the neighborhood -- two blocks away -- for the past three years.
When I moved in, the area was "Hellsie" -- very mixed demographics, lots of places to go out, still a gritty feel.
Since then, it's gotten more yuppified: my favorite diner closed, my favorite bar closed. Ranch 1 closed. Whole Foods opened in the Time Warner Center. The Ninth Avenue eateries have gotten slicker, though not better, and if you want the feel Ninth used to have, you have to go to Tenth.
I still think it's a fun neighborhood to live in, and hugely convenient: you can walk to work (my husband is seven minutes from his job) and between the Columbus Circle stop and the N,R stop at 57th you can get anywhere in the city pretty quickly.
hope that helps

I have lived in the Marc since it opened 2.5 years ago. It is a top notch building. I did have some issues with management my first year, but they have straightened their act since. The building is about 20% affordable housing and 80% market. Rents are sky high for new leases, but since the building is rent controlled, my rent is OK. Noise levels are fine, since most of the residents are in their high 20s - early 30s. The gym is great, but expensive. I like the neighborhood, although there are a lot of tourists running around and that could be annoying.. Hope that helps.
