i have always been in an organized environment (school, teams, etc) where it was easy to make friends..being exposed to people of similar interests..but HOWW do you do this in nyc? randomly walk into happy hour and hope for the best? i joined meetup.com...may try going to an event...any other suggestions?

Try volunteering. I am sure you will meet good new yorkers. :)

as you can tell from the responses in this post.. we dont like making new friends :D

Will you be working right off the back? I notice most individuals who move to NY for work tend to become close with their coworkers, especially if u work in a large firm which has "start groups" or in a serivces job such at bartending.

Other options are joining leauges for sports. Alot of female friends have joined book clubs (I am not saying this is not for males, but in my case only my female friends have done this).

Linving in a large building helps also especially if u like going to the bar across the street, its instant companionship.

good luck
