Any ideas on the subject? I'm still undecided. I think that it will go either wonderfully, or make an eye-sore on the Toronto skyline.

I like it, better than the crap he built in New York.

Yes, he has been known to build crap in Ny. After a while I guess it could grow into my liking. Considering it is a 1000ft+.

Not an eyesore, but why not taller?

Jake

taller? It's a 1000'

anyway, this has been proposed for a while now, are there any actual news?

BTW, anyone notice every damn building in the world has those shining roofs, spires, and windows in the renderings and NONE of them actually have those things installed?

I don't think he (Trump) builds anything - he puts his name on the buildings for the stake in the venture where outside investors foot most of the bills. Some of the buildings that have the Trump name here in the New York are quite beautiful. For example, Trump Palace and Trump Plaza on the Upper East Side.

Only good thing that has a his name in it is the Trump Palace. Everything else here in NYC just about suxs and borders offensive. This thing (pretty much like his outside of NYC stuff) is actually pretty decent looking. Why cant he build that or Trump Chicago Tower instead of TWT-like garbage, I have no idea.

I've never been to Toronto :( , but after looking at the images on the website ...

Seems it should be another 15 - 20 stories taller.

And the furbelow (thanks to ablarc for my word of the day) up top is just silly.

Considering that the Chicago Trump tower is only less than 300 feet taller, and getting sooo much more attention, i would think that Trump would want to re-vise T.O. and make it larger; make his entrance into the canadian real estate market with a bigger bang. Also, it is true what someone said a while ago that Trump doesn't build, he justs gets money for putting his name on it. (for the most part anyway.)

There was some news recently about something like all the Apartments have been sold, and that none were left. Could just be a marketing gimic though to raise interest.

Looks good, its design and height (if it is 1000 ft tall) make it stand out.

Groundbreaking for Trump tower set for spring
SYDNIA YU

From Friday's Globe and Mail

With about 70 per cent of the suites in the Trump International Hotel and Tower already sold, groundbreaking at the site in Toronto's financial district is scheduled for spring, with construction expected to start in the summer. "There's no turning back," says Barry Landsberg, Toronto director of marketing for Trump International, a joint venture between property tycoon Donald Trump and Talon International Development Inc.

It is expected that the luxury hotel/condominium — Mr. Trump's first development in Canada — will be completed in 2010.

When completed, the 70-storey tower at 325 Bay St. will be the tallest residential building in Canada. It will contain a five-star hotel with 291 suites and, above them, 147 luxury condominium units.

Plans for the residential suites range from one to three levels and measure 1,299 to 7,375 square feet; the average price is between $2-million and $3-million.

For frequent travellers, hotel suites can also be purchased, starting at $784,000 for a 574-square-foot studio. These rooms will be fully furnished and eligible for inclusion in the hotel's rental program when vacant. "You own that suite outright, so you earn all the revenue from that suite," Mr. Landsberg explains, minus administration and operating fees. "If it's rented out for $650, you may earn $500 of that."

As for amenities, the set-up will be similar to that of the Trump International Hotel and Tower in New York, which is Mr. Trump's flagship development.

"[The Trump Organization] has that experience in managing that Manhattan lifestyle living, and that's what they'll bring to the development [in Toronto]," Mr. Landsberg says, adding: "[Purchasers] like the availability of all the services and amenities of the hotel."

For example, facilities in Toronto will be oriented toward business people. There will be a high-tech business centre with meeting rooms, as well as restaurants, a bar and an 18,000-square-foot health club and spa, complete with a gym and pool.

Residents also will have access to hotel services such as housekeeping and valet parking, as well as exclusive use of two chauffeured, S-class Mercedes.

The site is close to many urban attractions, such up-scale restaurants, theatres and major concert and sports venues. "It's all within walking distance, and much of [the walking is] underground ... through the PATH system," Mr. Landsberg says.

"There's a level of discretion and intimacy in the building," he continues, pointing out that there will be two to six residential units on each floor, separate service entrances for some suites, and private elevator access from the Sky Lobby on the 33rd floor.

"Whether you're in a 6,000-square-foot suite or 1,300-square foot suite, we've maintained the 10-foot-plus ceiling heights and the same quality of fixtures and finishes," he adds.

They include hardwood and natural stone materials, and coffered ceilings in some areas. There will be stainless-steel appliances and electric fireplaces.

Most plans include formal living and dining rooms, and eat-in kitchens with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city and lake. Some models have terraces, libraries or gallery-style foyers, and penthouse units have great rooms.

Tallest building in Canada.

BTW, Trump has only offered his name for the project and Trump will be managing the hotel. The real money behind the project is a Russian born Canadian who made a huge fortune in Russia during the past decade.

$690-$1200 CAD per square foot, that's not so bad...:)

Real estate is still cheap in Canada versus the rest of the world.

In that rendering you'll notice a concrete stump across the street from Trump. That was an office tower started in the late 80's/early 90's that was cancelled during the recession of the early 90's. Four months ago they started tearing it down for a new 50 storey office tower by Brookfield. Lead tenant will be KPMG.

Hmmm... Couldn't get it up.

Funny. You might mistaken that stump for a Brutalist masterpiece. I kind of like it. Condo conversion?

On a side note, what is the point of putting up a condo in a financial core when all of its sides will be obstructed in the coming decade. Toronto has plenty of superb waterfront high rise condo property, I'd rather live there.

City Life vibe maybe? I know several people, including myself, that would rather live in a city than on the waterfront, or in a burb, or in a wooded area. Just so close to everything; entertainment, jobs, shopping. It's very conveinent.

One of the reasons why Trump has been on the market for so long. Meanwhile the Ritz-Carlton, which came on the market later, is now under construction. A new Four Seasons is coming to market shortly. I suspect it will start first as well. Both are in better locations.

Financing secured for Toronto Trump tower
Canadian Press

TORONTO — A Toronto developer has secured financing needed to begin construction on a Trump International Hotel and Tower in downtown Toronto.

Talon International Development Inc. says a deal has been reached with Austrian bank Raiffeisen Zentralbank Osterreich AG for $310-million in financing. Construction of Canada's first Trump Tower is scheduled to begin this year.

Talon chairman Alex Shnaider says Trump Toronto is “already an international success story,” with more than $250-million in pre-construction sales from buyers around the world.

The $500-million, 70-storey Trump International Hotel and Tower is planned for the corner of Bay and Adelaide streets in the heart of Toronto's financial district.

Remaining hotel condominium suites in the luxury tower are currently selling from $800,000 and larger residential suites start at $1.8 million.

The project will be the Trump organization's fourth Trump International Hotel and Tower and the first outside the United States.
