I"m starting to look to purchase an apartment somewhere in or close by manhattan and was just wondering if there are any websites that specialize in listing apartments that haven't already been remodeled/restored. It seems like everything for sale is already nice, but I like doing remodling and refinishing stuff myself and it seems as this has already been done to every apartment. Do these apartments exsist anymore?

Not many -- If something is at a big discount because it's a wreck, the professional contractors usually find it too, and you can't go toe-to-toe with them because, they have wads of untaxed cash.

I would think the way to find something like this would be to pick a neighborhood and then watch nytimes.com every week to see what new listings come on.

The key words to search for are "handyman special", "TLC" and "estate condition."

Your best bets are going to be co-ops, so make sure you're ready to put 20% down.
