I read about it a few months ago. I think it was sold. I cannot remember the name.

It's a 100% rental building. Older, probably at least 60+ years old, and was said to be the, if not one, of the most expensive apartment buildings in Manhattan.

I remember the article in the NYT saying the units rented from $8,000 to $20,000/month. It was mentioned in the NYT sometime between Sept and Nov, I believe saying how it was sold.

I cannot remember the name, can anyone help me out?

It is most likely the Apthorp:

Glad Fabrizio found you what you wanted.

Walking distance from the Apthorp, there's another building just like it, called the Belnord. It's even bigger and can be found at 225 West 86th Street.

Cool thanks. It's almost impossible to find any information on these buildings on the internet. No way to find photos, rent prices, etc. Like they don't even market them.

The Belnord was (is still?) notorious for its crazy owner and lawsuits with tenants... chronicled years ago in a lengthy and entertaining article in New York Magazine.

The last rental I see in the Belnord is a Classic Six (two bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, maid's room) for $10K a month.

Similarly, two bedrooms in the Apthorp run $8K-$10K a month.

At those prices, the building owners are probably not using direct Internet marketing.

If you want to get into one of those buildings, your best strategy is probably either a) to use an NYC real estate agent or b) work through someone already in the building.

If you want to pay those prices and avoid a broker, you should probably look in a Glenwood building or a Related building; both of those companies have websites.
