Well, after everyone keep telling me I should visit New York, and how good it is I have decided to book a 4 day Mon-Fri break.

I will be going with my GF, the dates we are looking at are 19th - 23rd of March this year and we are looking to stay here. (http://www.theroosevelthotel.com/)

We are on a budget but this hotel has a good deal with expedia at the moment. I have absolutely no idea what we are letting ourselves in for, so any advice on places to visit / avoid would be welcome, as would cost of food etc so that I can have some idea as to what we can realisticaly acheive on this short stay.

I will check out the other posts in this forum in the meantime.

Thanks for your help (in advance).

Rachael Ray has a show on the Food Network now where she eats out in New York City on $40 a day. Supposedly when Anthony Bourdain, another celebrity chef, heard about the show, he said, "you could try tipping."

So that, I think, sets your benchmark for food on the low end.

I remember years ago having a very nice tea at the Roosevelt, but I have no idea whether they still do it now.

Yeah, I've heard the portions are on the large side. Maybe I should ask for an extra plate;)

$40 dont sound too bad, can cope with that.

Oh aye sorry, will be travelling from Scottish Borders, uk. I know we will be limited to what we can see and do due to the length of time we will be there, I am looking forward to this so much as this will be the first holiday we have had in 3 years. Even watched TERMINAL so I can get some ideas in case I get stuck in there lol.

Will check out the links thanks.
