The website has lots of stuff up: http://www.100west18.com/
But they don't seem to want to show too much of the full building (mainly lots of fabulous looking young people involved in luxury-lifestyle activities  ).

Has there ever been a new development where they have been accurate about completion date? Seems like they are almost always 5-6 months late at best

This one looks like a rip off of the Charleston (http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10531).
Of all the firms out there, why anyone would choose an SLCE design to copy is beyond me.

Latest "Luxry Building" amenity: They even wash your feet for you ;)
What is referred to as a sink is actually an Eileen Gray side table - not quite so effective for foot bathing but some developer may see the foot spa experience within a lobby as the next must have amenity!

This is still just a dirty hole in the ground.
The dirty hole is now fully enclosed with concrete.
And a crane is on-site ...
Some of the construction has reached street level ...
And Mr. John has reported for duty ...

Since it's only 10 stories, Fall 2007 is not unreasonable...certainly by the end of the year it should be completed.

This brooding hulk is up to floor 7 -- just 3 more to go ...
Not the most welcoming form as you approach the landmarked stretch of Sixth Avenue from the south :(
If that south-facing lot-line wall (first pic below) is windowless then I will be one very unhappy camper

If anyone has connections to either the Architect or Owner of 100 W. 18th please CALL THEM ...
Tell them to switch out the black facade before its too late ...
Even bare concrete is less offensive than the gloomy black which is planned to cover this thing (a facade treatment that has no realtionship to anything in the immediate area and which literally creates a black hole at the south end of this great stretch of Landmarked buildings) ...

I think that this building is lame, but it beats having the filthy parking garage that was there. Brauser is the "developer," and Garrett Gourlay is the "architect." This undynamic duo have a project on Washington St. at the old WTC site, and they hope to raze three beautiful, old buildings next to a parking garage that they own. There was talk of landmarking the old buildings, and I hope these schmucks are stopped.

This pile at 100 W. 18th has it's own thread (http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12291&highlight=18th) ...
It's a gloomy hulk showing little imagination. Its main selling point are the great views it has of the landmarked buildings across the streets to the north & east. Remember that two great old brick buildings wre torn down to make way for it.
Anyone know how it's selling?

What a terrible-looking piece of garbage. Add in AC vents underneath the windows and it would be no different from a McSam.
I remember there were a couple of nice walkups that were razed for this junk.

I am interested in people's take on the retail at 100 West 18th.
If you didn't know, Chase and Modell's have both installed garish and HUGH signage over multi-levels on the Sixth Avenue and 18th Street side of the building.
In my opinion, went from sexy and fresh to cheesy and stale simply from selecting these retail shops as their front-and-center tenants. What were they thinking? Do you think the developers even thought about making the retail consistant with the sales office themes of young, trendy, hot condominium living? I am surprised and disappointed.

^ If they'd just continue the glassy "chamfer" all the way down through the base and to the street level, it would have looked so much better.
As for the signage, I agree it cheapens the look. What I think would help a lot is to use storefront awnings to make it more classy looking but of course, outside of a few architectural firms, today's generation of architects don't have the imagination.
(I'm no architect but even I can do much better than 80% of stuff going (or have gone up) in this city.)

The building is not so bad... but does anyone here think that down-on-the-street scene is better than the tenements and taxpayers it replaced?

It doesnt look horrible, the brick is a decent material although ground level is very 'insert ground level here'. It reminds me of so many apartment buildings in the Upper East Side that i find attractive.

The Building doesn't look horrible (what a thing to say, is that a compliment)? But the signage on the retail truly cheapens the building. I wouldn't be surprised if it negatively affected the value of the apartments, either, but a small but significant amount.
TWO floors of Modell's signage? Seriously, what were they thinking?

People said similar things about Best Buy and 15CPW.
Except for certain very rare instances, any ground floor retail is better than none.

Three Modell's signs and five Chase signs. How utterly obnoxious.
Yes, I used the word "utterly".
