I've lived in Long Beach, commute is 1 hr from Penn. Long Beach is nice since it's the end of a line so you can fall asleep with no worries.

Downside is LIRR version of rush hour is based on an early day (7-9 am, 4-7 pm) and trains only run once an hour, non-rush.

^^You can locate that information HERE (http://www.mta.info/lirr/) (Long Island Railroad Schedules and Maps).

Really does depends where in Nassau you are and the line you are on.

Take Hicksville for example (where the precient is walking distance to the train station) It could take up to 1 hr on a local train but also can take 35mins on some of the great express trains that go Penn - Hicksville.
This is really the only line i can speak confidently on.
