If you're walking in a hurry, without stopping and as directly as possible, it would probably take you 35-50 minutes. However, if the weather is nice (and there's a good chance it will be in late April), you can make a nice day-long walking tour of Manhattan from the Empire State Building to Battery Park. I would head south from the ESB to Union Square, then cross over to the West Village, maybe have lunch at La Bonbonierre, then continue south through SoHo, TriBeCa, and that will bring you to Battery Park City. At the end of the day, I would take the subway back from Battery Park station.
