In Photo #53, are those town houses all-new, or are they new facades on old structures?

Awesome streetscape. I sometimes wonder how much different NY as a whole would look if the depression was 10 years later.

^ I know. But just wonder if the depression was 10 years before! I guess we got all these architecture treasures at the right time. ;)

Indeed!

Always thorough and interesting.

Can I put in a request for Trump Riverside and the surrounding area? You live there, right?

I'm especially interested in what happens at street level thereabouts.

Yes, thank you krulltime for that wonderful tour. I remember Fulton Street Mall being dirtier when I lived in the area about 10 years ago, it's nice to see it looking more cared-for. Or maybe it was just the right day of the week.
Anyway, it's exciting to see downtown Brooklyn continue to grow and regenerate. Almost makes me wish I hadn't left for Manhattan. Almost.

Yeah I live in the Trump area. I will do my best. :)

Anyway Ablarc, your opinion and NYC are getting slammed by some french guy at SSC.... I just though I let you know. ;)

Hey ablarc I always though you live in the city. Because with your photo tours you always seem to know where to go and take some good photos. So what city do you live at?

^ Charlotte.

But once a New Yorker, always a New Yorker.

The Savoy awaits ...
Looks incredibly good.

Can't decide between the duck and lamb.

Wish the prices were a tad lower.

But certainly on my must-do list.

Those two contemporary POS buildings to the left end of the block (middle of pic) are just bad, bad, bad!! Tall bulk square hideousness, Ugh! (had to get that out of my system)

Nonetheless, nice pictures Krull. :)

Eh, it's not bad for a Marriott Hotel...

I must say your photos make me nostalgic for downtown Brooklyn. We lived there from March 1968 to September 2003 and all those scenes were just a stroll away. Often walked up to the Heights Promenade just for the fun of it. Went around the corner for the Times on 9/11/01 and looked up to see a really big cloud of smoke. I thought, now something really big must be burning! It was! When they were still there we could see the Towers from the other end of our block.

I've never been inside the Brooklyn Marriott, does it have a large central atrium? Because its sheer size has always made it look more like an office building than a hotel to me. Also the addition is even worse than the original Brooklyn Marriott which isn't too good to begin with.

It has an atrium like interior about three stories tall. Not much to crow about. The Marriott actually occupies the third through sixth(?) floor. (The base / street wall portion of the building.) It was relatively small and is only a small portion of that building, which is primarily commercial. Escalator from street to lobby (another hotel "protecting" its customers from the street). The first floor of the hotel is primarily meeting and banquet rooms and Brooklyn's largest ballroom. The Brooklyn Marriott, prior to the opening of the annex, had the highest occupancy rate of any Marriott in NYC.

That explains it, thanks. I was under the impression that it was the entire building.

We stayed in Downtown Brooklyn when we visited at the Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. I love the downtown area just about as much as I love Manhattan. There is so much to see and a lot of stuff to do! Your pictures bring back a lot of memories. Like ... Borough Hall (http://www.pbase.com/image/75030452.jpg), this excellent "restaurant" (http://www.pbase.com/image/75030430.jpg) at the end of the Fulton Street Mall, and the Fulton Street Mall. :p

Thanks for the tour,
Ben
