The new proposed Las Vegas Tower. It will be 1,888 ft tall when finished and will surpass the Freedom Tower and will be the tallest hotel in the world and complete with observation deck with casino and is being done by SOM Architects.

WOW!

Makes FT look like yesterday's news and from the same firm no less.

New York with its Gene Kaufman-McSams is definitely becoming an architectural sewer compared to the rest of the world

Not too good.

Las Vegas is already a sewer -- or perhaps a parched gutter is a better way to put it.

The Vegas market has gone bust. Projects proposed less than six months ago are being dropped right and left.

Free drinks on me if this is ever built as shown.

Some of the renders are cool, though (more HERE (http://urbanity.blogsome.com/2007/01/05/las-vegas-tower-clark-county-som/)) ...

This is an old idea, if I remember correctly it's stuck in some kind of regulatory or financial ditch.

This isn't the first supertall proposal for Vegas, it won't be the last.

Also the height of buildings isn't a judge of cities, if it was Dubai, Taipei, and Kuala Lumpur would all be more important cities than New York.

Lastly I believe there is a height limit for Las Vegas, I remember reading that the Stratosphere Tower was supposed to be much higher but was shortened by the FAA.

Agreed, even City Center the large project they have going on, is being scaled back

Ive argued that as well, NYC builds economic and usable buildings, there is no point in spending all this money for land and construction here just to build a tall stick that has no meaning or use!

^ But it does have meaning (promotion, attraction, attention) and use (hotel, casino, observation deck).

If built it would be the tallest hotel in the world with a casion ontop the observation deck.

Interesting, but Las Vegas hardly seems the best place real estate wise for a 100 story residential tower (with hotel?).

Have fun pumping water from the desert up to the top of that thing. Las Vegas defies logic and, even with each new garish creation, it ain't what it used to be. Tallest hotel in the world? Suits me fine. That becomes the #1 terrorist target in America.

why? there always seems to be someone saying this about anything these days. what about freedom tower, empire state, stock exchange, grand central, times square, statue of liberty, sears tower, white house, capitol hill, i could go on. Why cant the first thing we talk about be something other than its place in the terrorist target ratings? its depressing

Isn't their airport just right off the strip? Or at least it seems like it from google earth.

Doubtful this project will be built...but as is often said, "hey, you never know." Prior post, this thread, was correct regarding the Stratosphere. That structure was to have been much taller, but there were objections from the US Air Force and the FAA that the proposed height would interfere with flight patterns for McCarren Airport and Nellis AFB. Of course, building height and flight safety can be managed simply by adjusting minimum vectoring altitudes. Bottom line is: FAA advertises itself to be customer driven. If the politicians in Nevada really want 2000-foot buildings in Las Vegas, they will twist arms and get the FAA to move the flight patterns, change air traffic control procedures, and adjust minimum flight altitudes. Land is really not at a premium in Las Vegas. Prime location at an affordable price is at a premium there.

So let me guess.. this resort will be Dubai themed?

And I'm disappointed that it isn't 1,888ft wide. It seems that most "towers" in LV are as wide as they are tall and I was hoping to see just what a wall 1/3 of a mile long (and high!) looks like.

/logic just as screwy as Vegas'.

Yes, the airport is adjacent to the strip. You don't notice it from the strip, but it is very convenient - because all you want to do it go from your plane to your hotel (not much more).
