Islamabad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamabad) is a new city for a new century ...
The city (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City) was built during the 1960s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1960s) to replace Karachi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karachi) as Pakistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan)'s capital (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital). A Greek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek) firm of architects, Doxiadis Associates, drew up a master plan, triangular in shape based on a grid system with its apex towards the Margala Hills (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Margala_Hills&action=edit). Rawalpindi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rawalpindi) is considered its sister city due to the proximity between the two cities.
Islamabad is a rather modern and clean city, especially in comparison to other cities in Pakistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan). It is well-organized, with the city being divided into different sectors and zones. Islamabad was divided into eight zones: the diplomatic enclave, the commercial district, the educational sector, the industrial area and so on, each with its own shopping area and park. Islamabad is also home to the Faisal Mosque (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faisal_Mosque) which is well known for its architecture and immense size.

First of all, Pakistan is doing great economically and this will reflect the growth and future prospects of a country. Its always the talk about China and India as the two emerging giants and its true, but whos on the third position, yes you guessed it right, its PAKISTAN

Not really. Russia and Brazil are the only other countries talked about as potential superpowers.

One of the things I really enjoy about WNY is the exposure it gives you to new locations and ideas. I never had any prior inclination to check out Islamabad. I guess I always imagined it as a sewer-in-the-streets kind of place, overrun with rats. Imagine my surprise when I looked into it, further. Good stuff. Thanks guys...

I'm going to change just two words in the above paragraph:
New York is a rather modern and clean city, especially in comparison to other cities in the United States. It is well-organized, with the city being divided into different sectors and zones. New York was divided into eight zones: the diplomatic enclave, the commercial district, the educational sector, the industrial area and so on, each with its own shopping area and park.
There, what do you think? Would you want to live there?
So much for modern planning.
Cities are better not rationalized and sorted. This seems to have eluded planners for the entire last century.

I think given the many circumstances Pakistan is doing pretty good. The afgan-pakistan situation has a lot of history, but i think Desi was talking about Pakistan's national economy, not their conflicts.
Do you have something against Pakistan? (i.e. refering to New York being modern clean city rather than Islamabad?)

i agree with above, i think this guy jus has something against it
and we could also argue that USA the most powerful nation on earth
cant control Afghanistan or Iraq EHH ?
u see the thing is that there is lot more behind this stories, anyhow moving
away from Politics i think we should focus on architecture, and this
Hotel looks great and will be icon of city and country !!!!

Maybe but still, but its still no monaco, islamabad and pakistan might be doing good but its no haven for the super rich, therfore no reason for a 7 star hotel, i may be wrong but a 7 star hotel aka as good as burj al arab, doesnt make sense as it would lose money as there is no market there for it. I may not know about islamabad as much as you but I would know if it was good enough to sustain a 7 star hotel. It will never be a super power until it loses its reputation as possible hiding place of osama bin laden. Also russia is already a super power, like it or not.
"the centaurus" not sure what that means?

My post was abut modern city planning principles, not about Pakistan or New York. Living in SoHo, lofter probably got it.

You're indulging in a little hyperbole, lofter. Situation isn't even remotely the same. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/taliban/tribal/map.html
Comparable would be the FBI not being able to set foot in Brownsville.

Yep ^^^ I read it as a comment on the regimentation of districts -- although Islamabad's decision to include parks for each district is a smart move (seeing as how SoHo is without one -- although there are many other parks within walking distance).

I guess this is what passes for progressive planning in much of the world. Elsewhere it's regarded as regressive.
The architecture itself is hideous.

I really like the new hotel design. But why built stuff on parks like that. This is too suburban as opposed to more urban. I don't like that part of the project at all.
Actually that is how I imagine what our convention center should look like. Towers on top of the convention Center. Instead we are getting that lousy boxy design.
