Working As A Nanny In Nyc & Vicinity

Hi all,this is a new experience for us,we have just discovered this site and you may be able to answer some of our questions?hopefully.....I am a british nanny and my soon to be husband is american,we live in england at the mo,but are coming to nyc in december for a holiday and to get wed!I then plan to apply for my green card to enable us to relocate to nyc where i will work for one of your wealthy socialites as there nanny!!!my hubby to be is an artist so nyc will be a fabulous base for him too.we will be in new york for nine days in december and hope to do as much research as possible,does anyone know how long roughly a green card would take for a spouse???also.any good agencies for me to register with for a nanny position?I will be earning $60,000+ possibly with accomodation provided,if not i will be earning more and we will rent.Loooking at past forums we are quite liking the sound of brooklyn,with a easy commute to manhattan,cause thats where i will prob be working.
Please give us as much help as you can,we are very new to this,thanks.denise & james.

I can't tell you about the Green Card, but I can tell you that your expectations of who's going to hire you and how much you're going to be paid are pretty unrealistic. Unless you have an advanced degree and years of local experience, you're not going to be earning nearly as much money as you've stated.

I do have qualifications and 15yrs of working experience with families as there nanny.I have registered with some agencies over there and the figures are about right from what i see.I have had some interest from families already but its the work authorisation thats holding things up.As long as im earning an ok amount to live on i dont care too much,what sort of a figure do you think i will be paid?

A green card through marriage to an American usually takes between 6 and 12 months in NY. I'd advise you not to start working until you get employment authorization card (usually within 2 months after applying).

Google for "green card through marriage" or "i-485 marriage" or similar phrases to get all the info you need.
