The NY Daily News has a special page about the "Summer of Sam".

Anyone living in the city at that time remembers that?

He shot the girlfriend and a guy who was living in my building on Restaurant Row ( 5th pic on the Daily News page on the link). I was pretty new to the city... a student like most of you are now. Donna Summer "I Feel Love". The Black Out. The line at Star Wars. Studio 54 opened. I can still remember the temp at Times Sq reading 104.
It's AMAZING I'm still alive.
"Overblown"? aw c'mon Zip.... inhale this :

Well, I don't mean the decade was overblown, but with so much raw stuff going on, there was a level of disconnect between the populace and Son of Sam. At the time, someone at my job was a neighbor of Stacy Moskowitz.
He drove the cops nuts though, not that they weren't already out of control.
The tone of the 70s was set for me a few years before.

I remember it well. It was my first apartment and I was living in Forest Hills just off Continential Blvd. I was in my early 20s and fit the description of the type of girls he was going after. Young, long dark hair and pretty LOL!
