Hey, i hope i can get some help from you all, because i am so depressed about what university to attend or audition for in NYC. I live in England, and i want to move to NYC and study theatre or drama. I've looked at the most famed universitys, such as Julliard and NYU, but i don't know which to go for if i were to audition or offered a palce. I hope i don't sound pretentious or horrible, but i want to live in NYC, and i want to study to become an actor. I dont have high hopes, i just want to study this craft to my highest advantage. There are lots to look at, such as Northwestern, and AMDA, but i don't know their national/NYC ranking, or anyone who has any background knowledge. Any new yorkers or anyone who could help this poor kid, would be thanked greatly. Thank you so much guys, xx

P.s Sorry if this has been posted before, but i'm in lesson and am doing this in urgency. Sorry!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

The best college is Columbia, but for acting, it would be Julliard.

If, as your handle suggests, you are looking to act on Broadway, then your best bet is the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. They have a world renouned musical theater program, and are a prime recruiting ground for Broadway productions.

Julliard would be best if you wanted to get into dance or instrumental music.

Brooklyn College has a very respected drama/arts program and music academy. In fact they will break ground on a new Performing Arts center next year once the Quad project is finished, this should make Brooklyn College not only the best liberal arts city school but one of the best colleges in the country.

"The Acting Company (http://www.theactingcompany.org/)" -- an off-shoot of the Juliiard School of Drama -- is one of the better respected performance / training opportunities for actors with an interest in the theater ...

NYU / Tisch has a very good MFA program.

All of the graduate programs in the US for acting training are now ridiculously expensive.

England has as good (if not better) training for actors than we have in the US -- and probably better opportunites to become part of a repertory therater company, which is where an actor truly learns the craft of acting ...

Why do you wnat to come to the US to study?

Thanks so much guys, and the one's i was looking at was Tisch, and Julliard, and also AMDA, becuase that would allow me to audition via video tape, and save money.

Why do i want to come to new york? I love it there, and i know it sounds all "i know i will be a huge star someday", and i know i won't be, but i really want to go from such a small enlgish town to the place i love, and the place where theatre is talked about and respected. Over here, in my opioion, it is only entertainment, and when i say i wanna be an actor, people say, and what about a real job? I know its the same for some in the u.s, but i love New York. By no means am i a budding tony winner, but i love musical theatre. I have a good voice, but am beter at acting, and i can play comedy real well (not being big headed, honest !). I love America, and here's where i get all poo poo... i really have a miserable life here. No one understands me, and no one but my theatre teachers realise how much determination i have. I am lucky enough for my grandparents to have saved quite a lot of money for my education (how much would i need about? For nyc universitys?)

I would say that i need voice lessons to coach my voice better, and in england, london is where i would need to move, and frankly, i don't like the theatre programmes.

Sorry to ramble, so... Tisch for musical theatre? and Julliard for music? So i would be better at Tisch? Is ticsh god for post grad opportunities? And what about AMDA?

Thanks for the info guys, i have no one else to ask. I can trust you.. he says. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

... no one but my theatre teachers realise how much determination i have ...

In the long run it is the desire and determination which will serve you best, beyond even, believe it or not, talent. Perseverance and preparation are 80% of a successful attempt. And showing up on time ...

As P. Diddy said to all the hopefuls on Making the Band 4:

"You gotta practice. This stuff ain't easy. Superstars work HARD".

Well i am punctual, so that's good.

I've looked at Tisch, as that seems to be the one most appropriate, but theyre course details are hard to find. I have looked all over the website, and i am unsure wether its fall term or studio proramme etc. I want to begin as normal in Septemer 2008, can anyone explain the course or link me?

Fordham University's Lincoln Center campus has a great performing arts program too. The school is located right next to Juilliard.
