Welcome to another of my walking in NYC neighborhood photo tours! This is Bedford Park. Located in the Mid-North section of the Bronx. This is a diverse working class neighborhood. You can tell that the infamous fires of the 70's and 80's never came all the way up here. The tallest towers in the Bronx are located here. They are the Tracey Towers and are both 41 floors. So please enjoy my tour!

Bedford Park, Bronx

Bedford Park is a neighborhood in the borough of the Bronx in New York City bounded by Mosholu Parkway to the north, Bronx Park and Webster Avenue to the east, 194th Street and Kingsbridge Road to the south, and Goulden Avenue to the west. It borders the neighborhoods of Norwood, Fordham, and Kingsbridge.

As a low-rise residential neighborhood, Bedford Park has a "skyline" of mostly five-story walkups. The most noticeable exception to this are the Tracey Towers, two 41-story apartment buildings close to the Jerome Park Reservoir. Designed by noted architect Paul Rudolph, they were completed in 1972 as a part of New York City's Mitchell Lama housing development initiative, aimed at allowing moderate-to-middle income families to stay in the area.

Thanks Krull for another tour. I really liked picture #26, the new development. I was in the Bronx today and I saw a new dvelopment two blocks from the train station that included a fenced in driveways for each unit. I thought it was ridiculous, this picture shows something more suitable.

What a great looking neighborhood. A nice mix of housing stock, midrise apartments and detached homes, not a lot of rowhouses though. The new construction isn't great but the neighborhood as a whole is still very attractive, the curved streets and elevation changes make for great street scenes. Good outer-borough density and vibrancy that other American cities would kill to have in their downtowns.

Thanks for a great tour of a never seen portion of the city, krull.

Thanks, krulltime.

Nabe seems pretty nice, if a tad dull.

Grand Concourse projects faded elegance.

Could use more ground floor retail.

Building cornices should be restored.

By any chance did you get any shots of 204th St. between Grand Concourse and Mosholu Parkway? I am thinking of moving to this area.

Oh sorry for not responding much earlier, but no I did not take a shot up there. That will be in another neighborhood, and that is for another occasion. ;)
