Hey there,

I'm coming to NYC and need to find a cheep hotel for a few days until I find a flat share in craiglist . I'm looking to spend as little as possible and i don't really care what type of place it is as long as i have my own room and its safe. By safe I mean I will be bringing expensive electronic audio production equipment with me and wouldn't want to worry about it when I leave my room.

The farthest I would stay from the center would be about 30min by subway.

Cheers for reading,

I'd probably worry about that stuff even if staying at the Waldorf.

Leave your expensive electronic stuff with a friend.

No point leading folks into temptation.

The hotel prices in this city must be so crazy if even Bill Gates, Microsoft founder, is looking for a cheap hotel. :D

The center of what?I'd say the geographical center of Manhattan, which is probably somewhere around 42nd and Broadway.

If you're Bill Gates, I would suggest you not be such a penny pincher. Live a little ;)

I have been in hotels throughout Manhattan over the last thirty years. When money is tight, I stay in New Jersey and use a bus. The one downside to this, is losing the "feel" of walking out of a hotel and being in the midst of everything.

My fave was staying at the Edison. I'd get up very early on Sunday morning and walk through a tired, deserted Times Square. Then find a coffee shop in Hell's Kitchen. Now, $225.00 to sleep at night keeps me in Jersey!

If you must stay in Manhattan, and feel adventurous, you can try Hotel 17. Share a bathroom for about $110 a night. Carlton Arms is about the same rate.

I just stayed at a really cheap hotel room in chinatown. it costs $15 for one night but you gotta share it with one other person. Or maybe you can pay $30 for the other bed. The place was also really dirty. Another hotel in chinatown has a single bed for $20
