So, um, does anyone know what Ft. Lee is like? What the commute would be like if I'm trying to get to the Upper West Side everyday? I ask because a family friend of ours has cheap housing for me there if I want it. I just have no idea what it might be like.
Thanks in advance.

Ft. Lee is actually very close to the Upper West side. The only thing that can be a problem is the George Washington Bridge. The traffic can be horrendous....so it depends on what time you drive into Manhattan. If I had family with affordable housing that close to the city I'd definitely take it though!!....go for it!!

It's an easy commute. There are frequent buses from Fort Lee to the A and C trains in Manhattan. These lines serve the Upper West Side.

I'm starting law school at Fordham (that's UWS, right? Or is that midtown? Sorry to be so clueless...) and I'm assuming I'll have class starting at 9am. I'll be bussing/subwaying it to and from everyday so I was slightly concerned about the Bridge traffic, also, how late public transport would run each night. Thoughts?
Thanks for all the input! It's a huge help.

Fordham college at Lincoln Center is located in the southern portion of the Upper West Side. Bus service from Fort Lee to Washington Heights (A train) begins 6AM-12AM*. The hispanic bus is $1 and the NJIT bus is $1.35 to get across the bridge. Traffic is OK but even if there is traffic, its only across the bridge. The subway ride down to 65th st. is about 15-20 minutes. You may want to leave your house at around 8AM to be safe.
*After 12AM, bus service is almost nonexistent. You can get lucky and catch the very last bus at 1AM.

Fort Lee = Great Korean Food!
The town has its ups and downs though. Commute to the UWS would be a breeze, but if you have a 9am class, I would recommend you leaving early and getting breakfast at the school or at a cart vendor (the traffic before 7am is much lighter).
If you have $$, you could also drive, but parking may be the biggest PITA. Both price and availability. Also, the 7am rule applies there...
Have fun!

Just walk across the bridge in the morning. It's good for your health and the views are truly spectacular!
