It was briefly mentioned in the 'far west side developments' thread, but the brick buildings at 515 W. 42nd (between CVS & the Police station) have been completely demolished, going back to the Victory (which is on w41st/10th Ave). Also, the other small (hideous) building between the police station and the FedEx parking lot has been taken down as well. It sort of looks like the site makes a 'U' going from w42nd almost at 10th to w42nd at midblock (again -- to the FedEx parking lot, edging up against the ConEd power station).
This is the only picture I have, but the site does have a picture of what is (in-theory) to be built -- this looks very similar to the cleaned up building now housing the CVS on the corner). CVS would be on the ground floor, to the left of the below pic, the police station the horrid building on the right. I believe this is to become affordable housing, but not positive. Anyone know more?

Ughh! Projects that are entirely affordable housing (or senior living) are almost always putrid looking.
H. Thomas O'Hara usually gets the call for these.
As much of a proponent I am of affordable housing, let's hope it'll be market rate with an affordable component.

affordable housing is socialism. if i couldnt afford to live here, i do not think that i should be entitled to some subsidy. i'll move to queens, or bronx, or delaware if i have to

I would be shocked if this were just affordable housing. This is a huge and very valuable site, with considerable F.A.R. It sold to a development partnership three months ago.

To expound on more general viewpoints on affordable housing, go to Public Housing in NYC (http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14161), which is currently a very hot thread. (Meaning that it has over 30 posts and currently has a high activity level.)

515 West 42nd is on the NORTH side of 42nd Street -- and per DOB is part of a site which covers theses addresses (http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/PropertyProfileOverviewServlet?boro=1&houseno=508&street=west+42nd&requestid=0&s=A03C41B885B461E4F46BD08866A7430E):
507 - 515 W. 42nd
506 - 514 W. 43rd
...
I believe the site you are referring to on the South side of W. 42nd (just west of Tenth Avenue) and which is -- or was, until recently -- being developed into affordable housing is actually 500 - 506 West 42nd (http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/ExpandedBlockLotInfoServlet?requestid=9&allbin=1082437&allborough=1&allnumbhous=500&allstrt=WEST+++42+STREET&allisn=0000052152)
The cruddy hotel shown at the right side of the picture posted above (now, I believe, used as interim housing for those in need) at 508-512 W 42nd (http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/PropertyProfileOverviewServlet?boro=1&houseno=510+&street=west+42nd&requestid=0&s=A03C41B885B461E4F46BD08866A7430E) (aka 509 - 517 W 41st) is really an eyesore and should be taken down and the site re-developed. No doubt the owner is reaping lots of tax-payer cash to house these unfortunate individuals -- but is clearly putting hardly a cent back into the premises.

Correct, we are talking about 515 W 41st, which also fronts on 42nd. That hotel on the north side of 42nd is another development site.

Do you know if the hotel on the northside of W 42nd just west of Tenth Avenue is going to be re-developed any time soon?

No, but I know it is owned by a development team rather than hoteliers, and it was listed in the Hudson Yards EIS as a future major residential development.

I imagine if one is going to refer to themself as "i" as opposed to "I" there would not be a grand sense of deservedness for anything.
