What is a flex? Like when you're looking at an apartment listing and it says it's a flex 3 bedroom, what does that mean???

thanks,

It means the apartment doesn't have 3 bedrooms, but it could be converted to have them. Generally, a 3 bedroom apartment is going to be difficult to find. Most places here aren't that large.

As soon as you see the word "flex", the ad should be looked at with a raised eyebrow. The house for which I'm in contract advertised:

"Living room, dining room, den, 2 offices, flex 6 bedroom..."

What it really was:

"One legitimate bedroom. Living room, dining room, den and 2 offices can be turned into bedrooms."

They forgot that the boiler room can be converted into a 7th bedroom.:D

Exactly what Schadenfrau said, but I would like to add, just because the apt says Flex (Insert # here) you MAY or MAY NOT be responsible for putting up the wall yourself. There are many companies that put up pressurized walls and it runs about $800 - ??? Depending on your needs.

From my experience for the post college life, most 1bdrm are flexed into 2bdrms. Living Rooms w/ Windows are a thing of the past :p

Not outside of the waterfront area. There's plenty of apts. with windows if you move away from the 'prime' hoods and amenities of some newer buildings.
