This is a great forum. I've really enjoyed reading so many of the posts. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experience with those of us who dream of living (at least part time) in NYC.

I'm thinking about buying a small condo/co-op in the bronx to use as a pied-a-terre (I live in the Syracuse area). I'm also curious about Morris Park, as well as the area north of Pelham Parkway near the Allerton station (is that known as the Allerton area?) There seem to be quite a few co-ops on the market near the Allerton station.

Thanks everyone.

When I was a kid, 20 years ago it was very Italian, thats changing alot as more Hispanic and Caribean move in. Mainly made up of detached one and two family homes, with a few housing projects missed in. Nice area to have grown up in

The Allerton area is diverse. Hispanics and blacks are the majority but you will see some east asians, south asians, middle easterners, and whites. Allerton was never a pretty place; avoid White Plains Rd. especially at night. It's a robbery hot spot.
I'd recommend Pelham Parkway or Morris Park.
In the Bronx there are a handful of good neighborhoods. Check out Riverdale, Kingsbridge Heights, City Island, Throggs Neck, Pelham Bay, Country Club, and Woodlawn.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm not entirely clear where each of these neighborhoods is. Is there a map that outlines the neighborhoods? For example, where is the Pelham Parkway neighborhood in relation to the Allerton neighborhood?

I'm taking a trip down on Sunday to look. On the one hand, the co-op building looks beautiful, but on the other I've seen some photos of the area that look pretty rough. It's hard to judge by photos.

It would be difficult to avoid white plains road because that's where the subway stations are.
