Ooooops, I thought I was looking at the travel photos of Lofter.

I was thinking: well, maybe Oregon isn't so bad after all.

Super photographs, they bring back great memories.

Did you get to go up north to Portinax?

Unfortunately not, though we saw some of the other beaches around the island.
Ibiza was very nice but my general impression is that it's overhyped. I definitely think it's a very good place for families, at times there was baby-stroller gridlock on the sidewalks. They have lots of choices for families and seemed to have special fairs and activities for children all over the place. Before going, my impression was that Ibiza is an adult playground, but I discovered differently. Aside from some big (and WAY overpriced) late-night clubs located away from the town center, and some bars, most everything else was shut down by 2 or 3 am and the clubs were narrow in musical range. It wasn't like Mykonos where you're walking through crowded streets until the sun rises.

What a difference to the mid 70's when I was a regular visitor and Ibiza Town was European capital for best music, clubs, and fashion. But, at my age it would probably still be suitable for me now. Thanks again for the Pics.

Ibiza was in its heyday in the 1990s after the Summer of Love in 1989 and the illegal rave scene was banned in the UK, and the new 'discovery' by little known DJs then, Paul Oakenfold etc who used to hang in a leetle place called Cafe Del Mar (now a global brand).
Ibiza later formed the apex of the club scene and was invaded every summer by working class drop dead gorgeous British teenagers and twenty somethings, heavily into the ecstasy scene and free love like the hippies. Since then year after year it grew more and more commercialised and less and less refreshingly friendly, and by 2000 was pretty much package holidays once again for the 18-30s club- all sun, sea and sex, albeit to a beat. The clubs are terrible nowadays.

What's new on the horizon though is the indy rock scene with more and more bands coming over with their fans, once again coming out of Britain and slowly colonising the island taking over from the heavily dated beats of house, trance n techno. It remains to be seen whether the Indy pop scene takes off as successfully as the mid 1990s club scene.

Don't you hate when that happens! Most of the contact we had with people seemed to be fending off the touts standing in front of each establishment who just want to chat you up for a few minutes before making a pitch.
We definitely weren't impressed with the clubs we did go into. Luckily we scored some invites for free entrance, because I would have been disappointed if we'd paid the crazy entrance fees. More people were standing around trying to look pretty than actually getting their groove on.
So, we had expected that Ibiza would be the stop on our trip where we would really party hard and get loose, but instead we enjoyed sightseeing of the Old Town more than the club scene. That was really nice. Ibiza is a very beautiful island but unfortunately it is suffering from unattractive overdevelopment in some places and a disappointing commercialization that you mentioned.

If you are a family I think it could be a nice destination, if not a bit overpriced for food and drinks etc. compared to other lovely resorts in the Mediterranean. I saw people many times who had their children dressed in little club Pacha or club Space t-shirts, and I thought, oh geez these people are the 90's ex-club-kids who have babies now and are still trying to be part of a scene that has changed as much as they have.
