The website www.cityrealty.com (http://www.cityrealty.com) has a top 10 feature, where they rank various buildings by category. I was looking at their rankings of the top 10 condos in the west side and east side. In the first one, they ranked trump international hotel tower and millennium tower in lincoln center over 15 Central Park West, which made absolutely no sense since the latter was the most highly anticipated and prestigious condos to ever appear in Manhattan. In the east side ranking, they ranked Trump tower on fifth and the chatham over one beacon court, which also made no sense. Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think of this ranking?

Rankings like this are silly and have no bearing on reality. We live in a city of thousands of buildings and there are many, many buildings that have the utmost in amenities with out the hype. Trump International Hotel and Tower is ranked over 15 CPW. I'm not sure what the big deal is regarding the ranking. 15 CPW is a new building and it certainly has received a lot of press nods and publicity (the above post can now be included in the ever growing heap.) I imagine it is not ranked higher because IT HAS NO OCCUPANTS.

I always wanted to do a Top Buildings list when I was at the Post (I'm the former editor of the Real Estate section). Lists are great because they're "talkers" -- it's not necessary that a list reflects reality as long as you can get everyone to talk about it over the watercooler.

But yeah, some of the decisions do seem weird -- I have a strong pre-war bias, so I find it odd that the Trump buildings beat out, say, that grand old lady the Century.

The neighborhood lists seem even stranger -- the Chelsea Atelier, a 12-story building with no garage, which has seen one sale over $3MM, ranked ahead of the Chelsea Mercantile, a 21-story building renowned for exceptional service, through-building access to a garage, and five sales over $3MM?

But hey, that's what makes horse races . . . look how we're spending time here talking about it.
