Hi all...

Once again, I am on one of my ambitious projects - this time, I am attempting to build a miniature section of New York for my films. I want to recreate the basic area of and surrounding Times Square. Does anyone have any top-down "plans" of the area? I need as much of the area as possible, no matter if it goes outside or inside the area that I want.

I won't explain the area I need, partly because I don't quite know myself yet and I will make that decision once I have a large plan.

I will build the model either out of cardboard or polystyrene, with either glued-on or drawn-on facade. As I said before, the aim of the model is so I can have something to interact with if I want to make a film set in New York.

I will get height references from a 3D model of New York that I have on my computer. The model is completely accurate, which will help when I am trying to match up the profiles of the surrounding buildings (if I can't measure things to scale in 3ds Max).

Thanks guys,
Joelio

Thanks for all those. I did try Google Earth myself, but I forgot about the quotation marks as it was about 10:30 at night, and right after my school production.

When you say that the above one isn't up to date, do you mean that there are buildings that have been demolished and new buildings put up? Because if the buildings surrounding it are accurate then I can use that, as I will need to research the individual buildings to build the facades.

Mostly store names / building names have changed ...

For example the "Ford Center" on W 42nd is now the "Hilton Theater (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilton_Theatre)" ...

The Howard Johnson's at 46th / Broadway is closed and boarded over (but not yet demolished) ...

Both the Times Square Brewery and the WB Store at 42nd / Broadway are no longer there ...

and stuff like that
