View Full Version : What's the prettiest Catskills autumn day trip?

October 22nd, 2007, 10:47 PM
A friend and I want to rent a car on Wednesday morning and drive up to the Catskills to see/photograph autumn foliage. We would like a fairly non-strenuous hike that reveals a panoramic vista, followed by a charming villiage to have lunch and a walk down a quaint Main Street.
Do any of you have suggestions on the place(s) to go?
We're driving back the same evening.

I like the Rhinebeck/Hyde Park area. Since Wednesday is an off day, you might try getting a reservation at one of the Culinary Institute of America restaurants?

I'm envying your trip right now.

Also, I'm sure there are other scenic walks in the area, but I particularly liked the Minnewaska State Park:

It does sound great. Now the weather forecast is predicting rain for tomorrow and I'm thinking I should postpone. Of course, it's peak color right now and I don't want to miss it. I wonder if I still have about a week or so  to wait for a sunny day.
It's amazing how living in Manhattan's microclimate can almost isolate you from nature's seasonal palette. Except for the mums filling every concrete planter in sight.

You can go to Old Forge or head to Pennsylvania and got to Delaware Water Gap.

Thanks everyone but I'm definitely postponing, looks like it's going to be a washout tomorrow.:(
IF the weather turns fair in the next week I may still try it.
