View Full Version : Live Christmas Trees in NYC?

Anybody have any reccomendations for purchasing a live Christmas tree, approximately 6-7 feet tall, for a Manhattan apartment?
I used Christmasdirect the past couple of years -- it was a great service with delivery to your door -- but it seems that they are out of business this year.
I don't have a doorman, so fedex is not a good option. Delivery is preferred although in a pinch I have access to a car (a small toyota) I could tie the tree to the top of.
I know they have trees at the Greenmarket. Do the vendors there deliver, if not, any other suggestions? My apartment is in the Kips Bay area.

I recall there being a Christmas tree vendor on 2nd Avenue between 34th and 35th St. Is that close to where you live?

There is a Christmas Tree vendor on a relatively large lot on 6th Avenue and Spring St. with a sign that says "we deliver". That's one, but I can't imagine that's the only one.

Yes, that is fairly close. I will check it out. Still could be a bit of a hike if they don't deliver, but it's an option. Same day delivery, wherever it is, is probably the best for me.
I'm just unfamiliar with the way lots are set up because I haven't looked at all -- the service I used previously was so convenient.
Thanks for all the information thus far!
By the last week in January, they're half-dead, shabbily strewn on curbs or in dumpsters, waiting to be taken away. (Hopefully, they'll be recycled...)
Threads like this make me sad.
I don't understand why this makes you "sad" unless you're just prone to being hypersensitive and judgmental. A live tree in my apartment brings a lot of enjoyment for my girlfriend and I. Reminds me of home. And if you're going to get technically judgmental w/r/t environmental impact, I'd be willing to bet that live trees (grown on farms that would otherwise probably be developed, renewed each generation) are more environmentally friendly than fake trees (manufactured, PVCs, etc.). "No Christmas tree" is simply not an option, and in the realm of indulgences, it's a relatively minor one.

I'm pretty sure that the vendor at 19th and Second Ave. delivers.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions!
I wound up buying a tree from the USQ greenmarket on Saturday. Delivered for a fee.
For anybody else that might be looking for one, I highly recommend the place I bought from -- the tree is very high quality and I thought it was a fair price. I don't remember the name of the farm, but it was set up on the 17th St. side of the greenmarket (the row of places in front of luna park), and it was the one closest to USQ East.

That's great. Now, take a picture of it all decorated and post it for us to enjoy with you.
Have a very Merry Christmas!

I wanted to get a real tree for my first apartment, but I decided not. I love the smell and the sight of the lights, but its silly since I live alone.
