Looking for something that will impress (e.g. similar to Rainbow room).

Beekman Hotel: Top of the Tower Restaurant
From views of sun-kissed rooftops to amber glows of sunset, guests are swept away by the majestic landscape of the New York City skyline. The Top of the Tower Bar & Lounge, located on the 26th floor of the hotel, is a renowned dining venue and pinnacle of Art Deco style.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel at Columbus Circle on W 60th. Planned an event there, went without a hiccup. If you know someone who is a member of the NY Athletic Club on Central Park South, beautiful event room on the top with outstanding service also.
Per Se also has a private dining room at Columbus Circle but have not seen the space--imagine it might overlook Central Park.

It isn't trendy, but one of the few private party rooms on high in Manhattan with really good food is Terrace in the Sky. It's also up in Morningside Heights, another potential strike against it, but the setting is great and the food is very good.

True enough, but not exactly surrounded by bright lights and tall buildings. Good but distant views of Midtown and the GWB. Best when warm enough to enjoy the outdoor terraces.

Check out "230 Fifth" PHENOMENAL views and a private party room to boot.

Is there still a restaurant at "The Top of the Sixes" (at 666 Fifth Avenue)?

I think it's now a "private" cigar bar.

Does anyone know of the link for PHENOMENAL, I tried Google but had no luck.
I don't smoke so cigar bar would not be my cup of tea :(

Here you go. The name of the place is "230 Fifth."
I described it as phenomenal.
