hi

not long now until our visit to NY, my husband is treating me to a limosine to collect us from the airport, I do not know what time to tell the car hire company to be there, how long does security take and collecting luggage?

many thanks for your help.

That could range from 45 minutes to several hours (or longer), depending on whether your flight arrives on time, which terminal it uses, the time of day, the nationality of your airline, flight and general crowd conditions, the mood and health of customs personnel, etc. Instead of specifying a time, just give the limo company your airline and flight number and hope for the best. Perhaps next time, you won't think that taking a limo is a "treat."

With the town car type "limo" serivces from the airports ("Tel Aviv" or "Carmel" ar two of the limo companies) the procedure is that you call them AFTER you get your luggage and then they radio one of their many cars to get you at the curb.

Getting luggage can take anywhere from 15 minutes > 1 hour depending on lots of stuff including things not yet mentioned.

There is no security upon arrival -- unless perhaps you're a non US citizen and coming in from another country. For non-citizens it can now take a couple of hours to clear customs.

Airline travel really has become a crap shoot :(

Your journey through security and baggage claim at the airport can take an hour to 90 minutes.

Many of the Limo companies will track your flight.

Be warned that some of the 'town car' (rather than stretch) limos will still be driven just like a yellow cab - and cost a lot more for the experience.

tdp is right. give the car company your flight information. if you are going this route, make sure you have a us compatible cell phone (although you probably do, it is the us's cell providers that are hopelessly provinicial about international coverage) so they can reach you. also make sure that they will come to the area just past customs, so you don't have to search for them and haul your luggage more than you have to (for the money you ought to get something).

The JFK to manhattan yellow taxi fare ($45.00 plus tolls, usually $4.50, and tip of about 15%) is actually one of the best fares I've encountered, nationally or internationally.

I managed to book at limo for arrival and a return car for coming home, they watch out for your flight arrival and it is one set fee, they are alot cheaper than taxis in england, this would cost me about £100 for for this journey in a clapped out old car (taxi) in England, the limo has only cost me around £75!

Both my visits have been in Spring and Summer when you would think it is more busy. Both times I have been through in 30 minutes including fingerprinting.

I think it varies depending on how many planes are landing at that time.

Enjoy your visit.
