Hello,
I hope this thread will last for a while meaning I get tons of replied and info.
What is Staten Island like? What is there to do in SI? I live in PA and don't like it. I was not born in PA. I was born in North NJ. I been to NYC when I was a kid but don't remember much. Is there colleges and universities either in or near SI? I want to move to SI but it will take a while cause I am in a wile of State regulations which it's a family home. In NYC they call it family care in PA we call it family living or life sharing. Thank you for any replies of info.

Hi php111.
I don't live in Staten Island, but I have one college you might want to look into. The College of Staten Island (http://portal.cuny.edu/portal/site/cuny/?epi_menuItemID=e571ea6358d6e516df390784d81010a0&epi_menuID=a00e05b73704d3407d840d5541a08a0c&epi_baseMenuID=a00e05b73704d3407d840d5541a08a0c) (CSI), is run through The City University of New York (CUNY) and these seem to be very good colleges. People have recommended these to me several times on this forum.
Also, if you wanted to go to school in Manhattan, it's about a 27-30 minute drive from SI to Manhattan (according to Google Maps) so you could enroll there and drive to your classes, if you're absolutely set on living in SI. Just a thought...
Hope this helps a little,
Ben

Hi Ben,
Does that College offer Environmental Engineering? I looked but maybe I didn't look hard enough. Thank you for your reply.

Why Staten Island? You're shooting yourself in the foot if you limit your school choices by that location, and you're pretty much a fool if you intend to drive to college in Manhattan. Do like everyone else does: pick a college and try to find housing nearby, then get there using the vast NYC public transportation system.

I'm going to have to agree with Schadenfrau about you limiting your education options to Staten Island. I listed The College of Staten Island because it was the only college I knew in SI, and thought you were 100% set on living there (maybe not). However, if you do go to school in Manhattan, I definitely agree with Schadenfrau when s/he said to take transit systems to university.

I live in Staten Island and I attend The College f Staten Island, it is actually a great school with amazing programs. They have raised the standards to even attend. Besides CSI there is Wagner College and St. Johns University, both outstanding school which have dorms and apartments. Besides the schools there are tons of museums, great restaurants and beautiful parks. I can tell you anything you need to know about the borough if you have any further questions.

This is a well respected engineering school and it is closer to Manhattan than Staten Island:
