Coming to NY in April
Coming with friends and my girlfriend
Girlfriends birthday while in NY - she is a vegetarian - want to take her somewhere special

Won't be a romantic "just the two of us meal" as we'll be with all our friends - however would want it still to be somewhere special

Any thoughts where we could go

Any/all advice greatly appreciated

Thanks guys

Maybe Pure? it's expensive, though.

Not so fancy, but bonafide vegetarian fare is available:

Souen at Prince / Sixth Avenue (northwest edge of SoHo)

Spring Street Natural at Spring / Lafayette (where SoHo meets Little Italy)

I would definitely go with Pure Food and Wine if you're looking for an entirely vegetarian (not even starting with vegan or raw) restaurant. There's nothing else that would even qualify under the general idea of "special."

Zen Palate has a lot of good vegetarian/vegan stuff too.

the koreatown HANGAWI is a really good upscale/non-hippy dive veg restaurant too. not cheap, but worth it (not all that expensive either, i don't think any main dish is over $20). consider it an alternative to PURE. ps -- if you go make sure you both wear clean socks!

GOBO in the village is another nicer one i have liked.

report back & let us know how it went.
