I would like to organize a series of meetups of Wired New York members over the next several weeks.
And I suppose the first step is to outline a scenario that is most likely to work.
Here is the general framework for the meetup(s):
i) sometime this coming (long) weekend Feb 14-16
ii) during the week
iii) weekend of Feb 21-22
iv) other time (suggest)
a) with a purpose of having a beer
b) having a vodka
c) coffee
d) photoshoot
e) a walk
f) visit a museum
g) visit an art gallery
h) bookstore
x) other (suggest)
1) in downtown
2) in Washington Square Park area
3) Union Square
4) Madison Square Park area
5) 42nd Street
6) Midtown
7) Central Park
8) other (suggest)
Your opinion?

I was wondering if maybe we could have one of these "meet-ups" sometime during the sumer? I know this one is planned for the next couple of weeks, but if it works out, could we maybe have one during the summer as well?
I know and have met a few people from the forum but would like to make the list longer and meet some more people!
Just wondering.. Thanks!
Ben

How about a combination of (c,d,f): a walk to one or more pre-established destinations, taking photos at the destination/s, then concluding the meetup at a coffee shop or bar.
Or, something along the lines of (g): A walk thru a Gallery "district" (soho, chelsea,LIC) and stopping into any number of places that look interesting.
This weekend (Sunday, Monday) are possible for me as of now, also the weekend Feb 21-22 is possible.
And to "the benniest". There are more meetup events being planned all the time, so sure, this summer there will be an opportunity for you to meet more people from Wiredny. At the 'Events' forum you can also try to arrange your own meetup or group event.
cheers

I just bolded some of your suggestions.
I am always up for a brew, although some of the pubs might be more well suited for some than others (for many reasons other than the obvious!! ;))
A photoshoot might be nice as well, but that depends on the weather. I have been thinking about bringing my camera in to work with me sometimes, but I never do (too much bulk, bad weather, no time, the Plague...you know, the typical kind of things).
Time is very relative, and the principal problem we have with this board, nobody is available whenever you decide. So noone wants to commit. I am guilty of this myself, so I can't say much! Best times for me would probably be After Work (beer would be best on Friday) or Saturday. When the kid gets older, we might even be able to bring him with us for a park stroll/camera shoot.
Aras are open a well. There are some nice spots At Battery Park, Central, Union Square, Washington Square, Hells Kitchen, The Village, the Other Village, and lots of architecture uptown (west side has some nice ones...).
Maybe we should just start organizing some of these things and make it like a club.....
Best bets would probably be beer and architecture! ;)

Sounds interesting, I'd definitely come if it happened to be on a time where I'm not busy, but since my schedule is utterly random these days I'll let you guys pick time and place :)

As you can see, making arrangements for these meetup events can be a bit like 'herding cats': chancy  I have attended several myself; with Edward, Greg T, and others in the past - eventually they do happen. Once you have posted here on this thread you are basically in-the-loop for this event; and you can now also use PM's to check-in with other members in order to find out about the current status of the meetup.
Cheers.

I strongly encourage Edward's invitation as a rolling event, opportunities planned every once in a while. And I wholeheartedly endorse suggestions such as Ablarc's to meet at the High Line and explore a neighborhood rich with architecture, art and urban vibrancy.
This would be worth a trip into the City, but for me, not until the conclusion of the academic year in May. Make it a moveable feast and scatter it throughout the year. Wish I was closer. For the rest of you folks, Go For It!

My schedule is pretty random right now too, so once again I'll leave it up to others to come up with a definite date. But let it be known I'd love to meet some more of you guys... plus, I haven't been in the city since June and this could give me the kick in the butt I need to get back in town.

Let's do this - meeting this Monday around 1pm at Union Square, then by 2pm drifting somewhere (West?), with the duration of meeting undefined so that people who can do it by 1pm, or 2pm, or 3pm (or later perhaps) can be accommodated. How does this sound?

Sounds good to me. I can be there at any time, so I show-up at about 1pm.

Missed it completely!! ;) (I usually only stop by here at work, so....)
What might work best is how you do it with many things. Just say you will be somewhere at sometime (with your own small group) and invite people to join you.
They do, they do.
They don't, no soup for them!

I have recently created a Wired New York Meetup Group at meetup.com/wirednewyork (http://www.meetup.com/wirednewyork/)
If you are already a member of Meetup.com, I encourage you to join Wired New York group. If you are not a member of Meetup.com, perhaps you should consider. You don't need to join Meetup.com to attend Wired New York meetups, but there are advantages to being in the Meetup.com loop. It sends you emails when a new meeting is scheduled, it keeps track of people that decided to attend, it provides space for pictures and discussions of past and future meetings.
The next meeting is already scheduled - the gallery walk in Chelsea (http://www.meetup.com/wirednewyork/calendar/9798553/), next Saturday, 28 Feb 09, at 12:15pm. The discussion for this particular meetup will continue in this thread (http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20402).
