How do I kill the pigeons that are nested above my bedroom window and make that horrendous cooing noise all morning?

That's only if he misses.........

Lucie, although we appreciate you trying to "help", just think how many PEOPLE you might be able to help if you put the time and effort you do with these COMPLETELY SELF SUFFICIENT birds towards something more worthwhile, like after school programs, homless food/shelter assistance, clean neighborhood programs, or (as posted in another thread) greenspace projects around NYC.

These birds will be here whether you help them or not. Kind of an easy thing to help something that will be just fine without your help, isn't it?

Don't answer that. it was rhetorical. ;)

Could you not train them to coo in tune and maybe make a video for Utube ;)

Seriously : Last week, for the First of May, I had lunch at my Communist workers social club that consisted of grilled meats: sausage, steak, ribs.... AND pigeon.

They were delicious.

Quote from last year's pigeon day festivities:They are often a city child's first contact with nature and an elderly person's only friends. So there! A solution to the problem of lonely, isolated elderly people. Inundate them with pigeon friends, waiting to pounce on any food they might drop.

I propose an alternate,

Squab for seniors

Is this some sort of coup?

Obama had nothing to do with this ridiculous day, started in 2008.
Being liberal does not make me want to celebrate these birds. I wrote about that last year on nymag.com and was told I hate animals, people and am in favor of torture. Some people just need to have a cause, however stupid it may be.

I heard over the weekend that the lovers of flying rats have glommed onto "Rock Doves (http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/information/Columba_livia.html)" as the preferable way to identify these filthy fiends and are pushing for a change in the name of simple "pigeons" to the fancier "Rock Pigeons" -- so as to get the more glamorous nomenclature into the heads of everyday folks.

But note that the seemingly official designation of the dirty bird is "Common Pigeon"

To celebrate the big day on June 13 perhaps a bunch of folks could get themselves up as a flock of these (http://www.giftsatpages.com/01/00446SM/mascots-birds-costume-pigeon-bird-mascot.html) and another gang could don a batch of these (https://www.halloweenstreet.com/SexyCostumes/General/Sexy-Safari-Hunter-Costume.htm) or these (http://one-net-enterprises-inc.amazonwebstore.com/Forest-Hunter-Mens-Costume/M/B001G8F244.htm?traffic_src=FIND&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=FIND&affId=the004-20) or these (http://www.buycostumes.com/Dear-Hunter-Adult-Costume/32387/ProductDetail.aspx?REF=SCE-froogle) and we could all show up at High Noon and make an advance on Pilgrim Hill (http://nationalpigeonday.blogspot.com/2008/09/hail-to-pigeon-of-peace-national-pigeon_03.html).

Would we be allowed to crap on them?

(BTW, I prefer "Concrete Doves" myself. It is one of those self-contradictory "luxury outhouse" lind of things....)
