One day each month, DUMBO's art galleries stay open late and host receptions and area restaurants and bars often have live music. This usually happens on the first Thursday - hence the name First Thursday Gallery Walk - but because of the Labor Day, this month it happens on September 10th.
This will be our second meetup for the DUMBO gallery walk. We will meet at 5:45pm at powerHouse bookstore (same meeting place as for August DUMBO Gallery Walk).
We will visit Smack Mellon (http://www.smackmellon.org/firstThursday_c16_08-2009.html) for Cinema 16 program that pairs edgy contemporary musical artists with vintage films; Dumbo Arts Center (http://www.dumboartscenter.org/) for 13th annual D.U.M.B.O Art Under the Bridge Festival and video_dumbo Preview Event; numerous galleries in the 111 Front Street building; there will be live music under the Manhattan Bridge. See Culture411 (http://www.brooklynartproject.com/page/culture411-1) for a list of participating galleries and events.
And of course bring your camera - the neighborhood has incredible views of downtown Manhattan from the Brooklyn Bridge Park and Brooklyn and Mahnattan Bridges.
Getting there from Manhattan - take either A, C to High St or F to York St. The train takes 20-25 min from Columbus Circle. The walk from subway takes 5 minutes.
