Does anyone know of any resources that pair building design with NYC zoning? I am working on a project in an area zoned R5 and I'm having a difficult time selecting an adequate building design. It doesn't help that (I think!) the zoning guidelines are abit cryptic. Related, what does the "OP" stand for on zoning maps labeled R5/OP? Thanks.

The Buildings Department has a handbook that is actually very good. In addition to defining the different types of zoning in layman's terms, it also uses easy to understand illustrations.

Do you happen to be developing a plan for the:

Special Ocean Parkway District (http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/pdf/brighton_beach/text_amendment_01_15_2009.pdf) [pdf] ?

The "Special Ocean Parkway District" is a Special Purpose District designated by the letters "OP" in which special regulations set forth in Article XI, Chapter 3, apply. The #Special Ocean Parkway District# appears on the #zoning maps# superimposed on other districts and its regulations supplement or modify those of the districts on which it is superimposed.
