The acronym DUMBO stands for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass" and describes the city's most vibrant new neighborhood, the old industrial district along the Brooklyn Waterfront between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.

One day each month, DUMBO's art galleries stay open late and host receptions and area restaurants and bars often have live music. This happens on the first Thursday - hence the name First Thursday Gallery Walk.

This will be our third meetup for the DUMBO gallery walk. We will meet at 6:00pm at powerHouse bookstore (same meeting place as last time).

We will visit Smack Mellon (http://www.smackmellon.org/firstThursday_TakkaTakka.html), Dumbo Arts Center (http://www.dumboartscenter.org/exhibitions.html), numerous galleries in the 111 Front Street building. See Culture411 (http://www.brooklynartproject.com/page/culture411-1) for a list of participating galleries and events.

And of course bring your camera - the neighborhood has incredible views of downtown Manhattan from the Brooklyn Bridge Park and Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.

Getting there from Manhattan - take either A, C to High St or F to York St. The train takes 20-25 min from Columbus Circle. The walk from subway takes 5 minutes.
