Years ago I did a thesis about past visions of the future (I think I got a B). One of the books I used was one from 1960 about what life would be like in 1975. Here are some images from that book. Some might find it boring, but I find it fascinating.

Of course none of this can happen with all these old buildings in the way, so they will have to be razed.

I remember a Twilight Zone where they went into the future: 1978. People were dressed in the silver space suits and had flying cars.

What I find is a common and funny aspect of most "looks at the future" is that the view of technology is hit or miss, but social evolution is at a standstill.

1960 was a pivotal cultural point; by 1975 "kitchen for a bride" was already hopelessly outdated.

^Of course, they're just in the way. As what happened in Boston...

Maybe some of the old tenements had to go, but for this??

I think they built this monstrocity in Montreal for the '76 Olympics & the Expos. No world series, though (and the Expos moved to DC)

The as built stadium is really cool.

"Monstrocity" as far as baseball goes, at least. The retractable roof at Olympic Stadium didn't even work for it's first 14 years...they just left it opened until they found the $$ to fix it. Then it broke again. Striking to look at, but the ultimate example of form over function. Which is one reason that the Expos skipped town (another being the Expos really sucked). Too bad, since I liked having a team in Montreal.
