They become like brownstones after awhile, see one painted lady - see them all.

By the time I left I began to hate them.

A lot of the city is kind of bleak and feels like it's built out of cardboard. At least it's dense.

The natural beauty makes up for the drab buildings. All within the city's boundaries.

^ It is with Seattle coming in second.

Derek, looks like you got around S.F. quite a bit.

Were you able to go outside of the city, like across to Oakland or Marin County?

Didn't get to go to Oakland. I headed up to Sausalito (by bike) and drove around Marin to Point Reyes. I also went up to Napa for a few days and drove down the coast to Carmel. Really spectacular scenery.

The only reason I'd go back.

Despite changes to the skyline, it still has the look of Vertigo in the late '50s.

I'm probably over-generalizing but some things I noticed...

I didn't find the people there particularly friendly. Though no-one seemed stressed-out, everyone I met came off as a bit stand-off-ish and didn't seem like they wanted to talk. Unlike New Yorkers who look aggravated until you begin talking to them. (if you dare)

The homeless people are really aggressive, luckily I'm black so they left me alone.

They have really polite drivers, who will wait for you to cross the street - even if your like in the middle of the block.

The hills and the variety of plants that grow there are the things I envy most about the city.

It's obvious people there don't care too much about fashion or being flashy.

I agree about the homeless. I used to go there all the time, like maybe once a year, but I have not been there for twelve years now. At this point I prefer San Diego.

When I was there I saw two homeless people having sex less than a foot from a busy path in Golden State Park. In all my years in NYC I've never seen that. In general I'm not a fan of San Fran, its just as expensive as NYC but is half the city NYC is, its extremely touristy and gimmicky, its too hilly (I love walking and found the hills to become tiresome), and its way too cold and almost never sunny, true its mild in the winter but I would go in the summer and freeze to death, I like my summers warm. I'm off to LA more my kind of City and weather, I'll post some pics when I return.

It used to be a great deal of fun and it was where many young people wanted to live. AIDS and Reagan pretty much killed all of that. It's hard to make a decent living there and for the most part people are no longer willing to sacrifice just in order to live there.

One thing I don't like about San Fran is all these beautiful old houses that have had these fugly garages tacked on. It should be illegal.
