From Gruzen Samton

The original Eastern Parkway Station, built in 1916, evolved into the current complex with the addition of two other train lines in 1928 and 1946. Since the complex was developed without a master plan, each station had unique structural and maintenance problems. As an intermodal transportation complex (an interchange between trains and buses), facilitating passenger transfers was a major focus in the scope of work. Gruzen Samton was retained to renovate the complex. Work included developing a substantial reorganization of NYCTA offices and facilities, as well as a complete refurbishing of the interior and exterior surfaces. Gruzen Samton also implemented architectural elements to help intergrate the stations. All improvements were in compliance with current NYCTA Standards and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
