View Full Version : Peking to Sail Away - Seaport museum to sell tall ship

I got this info from a reliable source, but I can't locate an article. It should be in the next Downtown Express.

The South St Seaport Museum, which is not subsidized, is in financial trouble. One of the ships has to be sold to maintain the rest of the historic fleet. The Peking was chosen because it does not have a direct historic connection to NYC, whereas the Wavertree (the other tall ship) does.

Germany, Spain and another European country are interested. The museum would prefer to sell the ship to Hamburg, Germany
- that's where she was launched in 1911.

The Peking has been docked at the Seaport for about 30 years.

That's a shame.
