Isn't saying that just a bit disingenuous?
First, the only reason you have that view is that ther developer tore down the large, ancient, and ugly powerplant that sat on that site previously.
Second, from an aesthetic standpoint, I don't think it will change much. The iconic midtown buildings would still be in the background, over the new construction. And, except for that gingerbreaddy thing tin the foreground (maybe), anything they build would probably look better than what it would be blocking.
Oh, and to Lofter's point, yeah. No one's going to be in a hurry to build anything.
We're going to partially lose this view.

Well, the view kinda was there..behind smokestacks. But I agree with you mostly.

Considering the proposed towers will be 600', you won't see anything in that view except maybe the tip of Chrysler when looking at that angle.
You can see in the attached pic below that even 40 story towers along the waterfront would block the view.
Maybe I was being disingenuous in that if you sail a bit northward you'll be able to get a similar view --between the future towers and the UN building.

Two things.
First, that view is from either right on the Queens riverbank, or on the water. If you have any elevation, it wouldn't be nearly as badly blocked.
Second, get the developer to build the towers tall, skinny, and well spaced (give him some extra height to play with in return). Keep the view between the new buildings.

The second is a right-on-the-money suggestion.

Exactly ^ The solution is so obvious, but seems to be missed by so many who fight against development.

The thing is, the developer would probably be perfectly happy with that situatioin, but the neighborhood nimbies would be apoplectic.
