View Full Version : World Trade Center in 3D Presentation - an excellent website
December 28th, 2002, 01:57 PM
I just found a site which presents the Twin Towers in 3D format. The owner of the site, David Liu, decided on creating the WTC in 3D, fearing that the original Towers may not be rebuilt back to its original form. The creator is still working on his presentation, although many details of the buildings have already been completed; currently the standard version (only the Twin Towers) and the high detail version (the WTC complex and surrounding buildings) are available for download.
Here are some pictures from the site:
WORLD TRADE CENTER AND WORLD FINANCIAL CENTER
WORLD TRADE CENTER PLAZA
WORLD TRADE TOWERS LOOKING UP
Note: You may need to download the VRML Crotona plugin to view the 3D presentation. it comes with various controls on screen in which the viewer can move around using the keyboard or his mouse.
The site is http://www.wtc3d.com/ . You can also download the VRML Crotona system from that site.
God Bless America.

There are Two World Trade Center 3D Presentations now. Sad to say the original 16-acre plaza and the shorter black buildings around it won't be coming back even if the Twins do, so these pictures will have to do for now.
David Liu's 3D Presentation (it's been posted before but I'll post it again to refresh people's memory)
Geocities New WTC Renderings (I just found about this one)
It also includes an interactive scene with views from the observatory.
Spread the word about these 3D sites, and make sure that the original World Trade Center never dies.

I've tried to get DaveL's version to load on this PC so many times I lose count on both hands - and still never works. I dunno if they've been taken offline or what, but they just don't work.
I've seen the one that Alprojects has done. It's a little less on the detail, but it faithfully recreates the World Trade Center nonetheless. It has the Sphere of course, but it also faithfully recreates the Ideogram and the lobbies of One and Two WTC. Hopefully someone out there with enough know-how (I'm still learning how to do 3D renderings myself) to make a walkthrough on CD ROM and allow the viewer to not only tour the lobby and observation level, but get to experience the elevators, escalators, and the offices of not just the towers, but of all the WTC buildings.
It sure would be a great thing out there for those of us (like myself) who never got the chance to see them in person.

Because the orignal post was made 3-4 years ago. They guy who ran the site stops by SSP every so often. The problem was that the model got so big, he couldn't run it on his computer anymore, so the project lapsed and he didn't renew his domain or hosting.
