View Full Version : Moderators needed
Edward

Wired New York Forum has grown considerably over the last year, and I believe there is a need (perhaps overdue) for moderators.
Generally, moderators have a threefold responsibility:
1. Ensure that subscribers are following the discussion guidelines
2. Assist new members
3. Foster a lively discussion
Moderators can:
Edit messages
Delete topics or messages
Move topics or messages
Lock topics
If you are interested in becoming a Wired New York Forum moderator, please write me at webmaster@wirednewyork.com. Let me know your user name, and which forum section you are interested in moderating.

There are at least two more sections that need moderation, Real Estate and Beyond the City. I think most sections could use more than one moderator and Skyscrapers and Architecture several. Contact Edward.

I'd like to help with the Beyond the City and I already e-mailed Edward. He mailed back but that was about two days ago.

Edward-
I read all the forums regularly and would be pleased to have an opportunity to be a part of its continued success. Of course, I am opinionated and argue once in a while. But, I know the rules, contribute regularly and would like to help if you need it.

This is a funny, funny thread. Edward, are you even looking for new moderators? Last affirmative post I see is from 2003.

Not to cause trouble, but.....
If you need a moderator, would you post the request anymore or are you concerned about the wrong people responding?
The only reason I am bumping this is because, Ironically, it came up from the other moderator thread...
6. Re the need for new moderator - yes there was a need, and still remains, so there will be new moderators in the future.
/me tries to look innocent........:D

Can we nominate moderators?
Lofter should simply be given that status. He redirects more people to appropriate threads and keeps the discussion lively in every section. He knows the threads better than anyone here and is probably the most well known member.

Well, I guess Zippy does.

Thanks, but I really have no interest in being a moderator. Or have the technical knowledge of vBulletin type stuff (and don't want to know about that, anyways).
I like to hang out and post here because of the way it challenges me -- I learn alot.
I also enjoy tossing out info to be used or discarded as others see fit.
Beyond the need for some better descriptions in the titles so that info is actually searchable it seems that wny operates very well. My hat is off to the all moderators for making the site move so smoothly. When we hit a bump they keep us on track.
However I do think some of us -- myself included -- are feeling a bit of Summer Solstice "Island Fever" (either the Manhattan or Long varieties). Plus the rancid renderings for 5WTC that came out today certainly haven't helped my mood one bit.
But this too shall pass ...

No wonder she is IMHO the best first lady America ever had...
"Ugliness is so grim," Lady Bird Johnson once said. "A little beauty, something that is lovely, I think, can help create harmony which will lessen tensions."
"That belief -- that beauty can improve the mental health of a society -- and her determination to make the United States a more beautiful place became Lady Bird's true legacy. "
Would the young people here please read this: http://www.pbs.org/ladybird/shattereddreams/shattereddreams_report.html

Do you really want a new Anything Goes topic on former First Ladies? I suppose I can arrange something... although Hillary Clinton stays in 'Presidential Candidates'.;):D

June 24th, 2007, 08:53 PM
I don't see a need for a thread for former first ladies -- Better that they just pop up in conversation on various threads here and there.
But has a former first lady ever done LESS publicly after she left the White House than Big Barbara Bush? I guess she's too busy putting into effect the New World Order (http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showpost.php?p=172257&postcount=3) run by the Bush Boys (http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/metro/3742329.html)
And who knew Babs was a native of New York City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Bush)

Maybe we should just have an all-new "DEAD PEOPLE" thread
Right now the wny graveyard is rather unorganized ...
A search of "Dead (http://wirednewyork.com/forum/search.php?searchid=617989)" shows ~ 8 separate existing threads for those who have died.
A search of "Dies (http://wirednewyork.com/forum/search.php?searchid=618006)" turns up an additional 10 threads.
A search of "Obituary (http://wirednewyork.com/forum/search.php?searchid=618018)" turned up only one thread.
Most of those ^^^ have < 10 replies. Many have only 1.
All on its own is the Pat Buckley (http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13464&highlight=buckley) thread.
Not sure how many other dead folks are just floating around out there waitng for someone to look them up.

In April I started a thread:
"Notable Obituaries/Passings" - Suggestion for Sub-Forum (http://www.wirednewyork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13232)
In this post (in the thread ) I put links to all the obituaries as of that date:
http://www.wirednewyork.com/forum/showpost.php?p=157740&postcount=5
After a few people put off the idea, I (somewhat fortuitously, as it turns out) posted:
Hypothetical question to the 3 members (above) who opposed my suggestion:
If a highly-esteemed member such as Lofter1 had proposed it, would you have taken it seriously?
The thread ended inconclusively with my asking you (Lofter) your opinion, but at the time you were indisposed and absent.:(

Because of the increase in membership and corresponding increase in posting (and spam) and because of the introduction of Wired New York Blogs, I am asking for volunteers to apply for position of forum moderator.
Only senior members are eligible to apply. Please send a PM to me or any moderator with your request. Please specify whether you are interested in moderating a particular section (e.g. Real Estate, City Guide, or Blogs).
