I remember this one line from The Fugitive, where they were talking about how the Chicago River can be dyed bright green for one day of the year, but it can't be blue for the other 364 days of the year.

I like that pic of Big John with the green cornice lighting the most.

That picture is taken from the new Sofitel hotel.

Great pics DDNY! *:) *But you can't beat NY for a parade:

Pipes, Drums, Flags and Green Take Over Fifth Avenue
By COREY KILGANNON *(NYT Tue 3-18-03)

The weather was balmy yesterday, with a high of 69 in Central Park. *But they held the St. Patrick's Day Parade anyway. . . .

Even before the parade started, the beer was flowing liberally in the bars around the parade route. *By noon, people were lined up two deep at the Mad River Bar and Grille on Third Avenue.

Two revelers, Lisa LaPenna and Lisa Parks, both from Norristown, Pa., *were clearly here for the beer. *They hopped off a tour bus on Madison Avenue near 78th Street, both of them accessorized in green ornaments, and looked for the nearest bar.

Ms. LaPenna, 24, a paralegal, said that she had agreed to come to Manhattan this year not knowing anything about the parade.

"They told me it's the world's biggest drinkfest," she said. *"I didn't know anything about a parade. *What do I know? *I'm 100 percent Italian."
