Yes, the proportions are clumsy, but the Beaux-Arts refinement makes up for it.

It has something of the soviet-era skyscrapers. Even though it's the latter that would have been inspired by it.

You can kind of see it, I must admit. *The Soviet towers had much broader bases and tall spires, as well. *Secular cathedrals of the Stalinist utopia; he had planned to build eight, but the last project fell through and only now is the eighth tower being built.

There was also the Palace of Soviets, intended to be the centerpiece of the new Moscow.

...bah. *I'm straying way off-topic.
