Architect: Bertrand Goldberg & Associates
Year: 1962
Style: Brutalist???
Description: When I took the architectural tour on the river, the tour guide said the architect (Bertrand Goldberg) did not believe in right angles for buildings, since right angles did not exist in nature.

A New York Building, the Corinthian, was partly modeled after these cylindrical twin towers. The scalloped terraces and the gray-beige color are similar. Conicidence? It depends on who you ask.

What odd flowers. Are the lower levels for parking?

You must not have seen some of those weird exotic flowers.

Yeah...the lower levels are for parking. The small box behind the buildings is the "House of Blues."

DDNY you are partly right. The box is actually an office building which is part of the complex. There is a bowling alley and gym on the first floor. The House of Blues is on the barrel vaulted roof structure. You can see it partly between the two towers in this picture.
Also, the green glass building on the left- there was a very scarry fire there a few months after 9/11. The fire was on the very top floor and it was big news for two days here.

Quite impressive for a small town outside of Gary, Indiana.

These buildings are kind of cool and different in a weird way and I like them.
They look like hair rollers to me.

Skyscrapers.com describe both Marina City Towers 1 & 2 as 'Brutalist'.
Each are 61 floors above ground standing @ 588ft / 179m.
Not the best pic, but the 1st pic that ddny posted reminds me of looking skywards to the Petronas Twins in K.L.:

You could also describe them as those things that you scrub yourself with to get rid of dead skin.

In my opinion, Asia has some of the best new buildings in the world...But I alway felt that the Petrona twin towers are sort of cold looking in a non welcoming way. They are like some sort of an evil headquarters for a company that wants to control the world in a fictional movie plot. Like those Sci-fi movies they make all the time. I wonder what big company is headquarter in there? :|

Yeah Gulcrapek, Petronas. Both are twins i.e. including Marina City Towers.
But obviously from different periods of constrcuction.
Similar curved edifices and almost 'flower-like'.

The box actually is where the House of Blues Hotel is. Once upon a time it was an office building, but it was converted into a hotel.
And the green building on the left is the former headquarters for Quaker Oats. It was designed by SON and completed in about 1987. The fire wasn't all that bad, but it was abot nerve racking I suppose. Not nearly as bad as the County Building or LaSalle Bank Building fires.

I went to a party there many moons ago. The apt. was pie shaped as you would expect and the entrance doorknob was in the center of the door, very 60's glam -
