Does anyone know anything about the new construction at 153rd Street and 76th Rd in the Kew Gardens Hills section of Queens? I heard it is going to be a pretty big development for the area.

Is this the one being built for Kosher/Orthodox families?

I did some checking and it is being marketed to attract Jewish families in the neighborhood. They have this giant crane out there right now. It looks funny since the crane is the tallest thing in the area. Does anybody have a rendering or pictures?

AFL-CIO Trust blurb:

New Mixed-income Housing for Queens Community
March 20, 2003

As part of the AFL-CIO Investment Program's $750 million investment initiative in New York City, the AFL-CIO Building Investment Trust has made a commitment to provide $20 million in funding for the development of The Estates at Kew Gardens Hills, a $105 million mixed-income multifamily project in Queens. This equity joint venture with The Dermot Company will develop a 12-story, 521,500 square-foot structure containing a parking garage, 10,000 square feet of community space, and 388 units of housing. Of these units, 78 units will be set-aside for low-income families. Work on Kew Gardens is expected to begin in April 2003, with projected completion in May 2005.

Looks boring as crap...

Indeed. The architecture–or lack thereof—is bland. The grounds look like a country club.

Cheap brick construction.

No architecture to speak of.

Note how you aren't allowed to look at image of the building on the website for too long. The picture is quickly replaced by a soothing pair of chairs.
I guess they didn't want to scare away the potential clientele.

That's easily remedied (at least for Mac users) by clicking and holding on the title bar to stop the animation.

If I swore, I would - that H. Thomas O'Hara has not produced one decent piece of architecture in his professional career. He is hired purely for economics.

building quality--bland
Wealthy quality--jesus christ
This building has the classic drive way, a fountain and everything else needed. If only it had a little bit more flavor in the design :(
